Dymag, the British design and manufacturer of industry-leading carbon hybrid auto wheels has expanded its patented BOXSTROM™ auto range with the new BX-F flanged wheel. Dymag today also announces two exciting strategic partnerships with Forgeline® and Brixton Forged®, who are launching aftermarket carbon ranges with the new BOXSTROM™ BX-F wheel at SEMA 2018.
The BOXSTROM™ BX-F harnesses the unparalleled performance and safety benefits of the patented BOXSTROM™, with the added versatility of a greater range of styling options for the aluminium centrepiece due to the flange technology. The BX-F joins the BOXSTROM™ BX which has already proved hugely popular with leading supercar and performance EV manufacturers due to its outstanding design, performance, aesthetics and durability in surpassing the strictest OEM laboratory and track testing. The BX wheel continues to be available for the aftermarket with ADV.1, who launched its co-branded CF.1 wheel at SEMA in 2017.
Chris Shelley, CEO of Dymag, commented;
“Across the automotive industry the drive to reduce unsprung weight has seen carbon become the technology of choice, with leading OEMs including BMW, Rolls Royce, Porsche, McLaren, Ford all launching carbon wheel programmes in recent years.
Dymag has led the industry in carbon wheel technology for over 20 years, launching the first commercial carbon moto wheel in 1996 and the first carbon hybrid auto wheel in 2004. Our new BOXSTROM™ BX-F further enhances our credentials and we are delighted that Forgeline has switched to our carbon technology and that Brixton Forged will now enter the carbon market using our BX-F wheel.”
David Schardt, President of Forgeline, said:
“Our partnership with Dymag is natural fit. Both companies have a long history of innovation, technological advancement, and a deep passion for motorsport. The engineering that goes into the testing and production of these wheels is very complex and it has been a pleasure working with their team and merging our respective capabilities. We look forward to using their flanged style carbon fiber barrel and for the opportunity to employ their technology into our growing line of Carbon+Forged hybrid material wheels.”
Adam Majcherkiewicz co-founder of Brixton Forged Wheels comments:
“At Brixton, our performance-inspired philosophy has driven us to deliver the finest, lightweight performance wheels that look incredible. The partnership with Dymag is the next logical step for us; to combine their breakthrough, patented carbon BX-F barrel with our new range of cutting edge designs makes a compelling aftermarket offer.”
Chris Shelley concluded;
“The two partnerships were the result of months of planning as we only want to work with market-leading partners who have the technical capability and the design credentials to respond to aftermarket demands for a greater range of applications and styling options. We will be making our market leading flexible carbon hybrid technology available to as many performance autos, SUVs and pick-up trucks as possible over the coming months and years.”

The innovative BOXSTROM™ carbon hybrid barrel improves all elements of driving performance through its patented design, which meets the highest levels of testing demanded by leading performance and luxury automotive OEMs, which are substantially more onerous than general aftermarket wheel testing. The BOXSTROM™ hybrid barrel is teamed with a Dymag designed high specification forged aluminium centrepiece. The result is a wheel that is up to 40% lighter than OEM cast aluminium wheels, with a corresponding 40% lower moment of inertia – meaning drivers will experience faster acceleration, sharper braking, as well as vastly superior road handling; all without compromising safety.
Started in the early 1970s, Dymag quickly moved to the technology pinnacle developing diecast magnesium wheels for Formula One and inventing the world’s first three spoke Magnesium motorcycle racing wheels. Dymag’s rich heritage on four and two wheels ranges from Formula 1, IndyCar, Rally/RAID, Moto GP, Superbikes, Isle of Man TT champions and race winners drivingand riding to victory on Dymags, as well as many production Supercar manufacturers.
Building on their success, Dymag expanded into manufacturing Forged Magnesium wheels, Forged Aluminium wheels and finally developed lightweight Carbon Composite motorcycle and auto wheels with an equally enthusiastic response from bike and auto owners around the world.
The company was re-launched in 2011 after current CEO Chris Shelley and other key former employees took control of Dymag. Very soon after it was successfully involved in re-entering the motorcycle racing and aftermarket, supplying the winning BMWS1000RR ridden by Michael Dunlop in the 2014 Isle of Man TT, and leading British Superbike Teams, a victory repeated in 2016 with the faster ever lap at the IOM TT Senior Superbike race of 133.393mph average speed, and again in 2017 this time on the new Suzuki GSXR. In 2018 Dean Harrison became the first ever rider to average 134mph round the IoM TT course supported by Dymag. 2018 also saw Dymag support Leon Haslam and the Bournemouth Kawasaki team as they won the BSB championship, as well as success at Pike’s Peak in the USA and as official wheel provider to Kramer as it won the GP2 title in its debut season.
Always at the forefront of materials technology over the past 30 years Dymag has progressed from its beginnings using diecast magnesium into forged magnesium and aluminium, before establishing itself as the world’s leading carbon auto and motorcycle wheel manufacturer in the 90s and 2000s.

About Brixton Forged
Brixton Forged wheels are entirely conceived and hand-crafted in our Los Angeles, CA based manufacturing facility. Since the beginning, we have voluntarily chosen to produce locally and as a result, we make full use of the outstanding talents of our Engineers and maintain full control over the quality of our wheels at every stage of the manufacturing process.
Delivering the finest, lightweight performance wheel in its class, our performance-inspired philosophy has driven us to surpass the limitations defined by traditional wheel companies.
Changing with the seasons, each Brixton Forged wheel-set is authentically designed, engineered, manufactured and tested exclusively for you.
Following two years of intensive R&D working closely with the National Composites Centre (NCC) in Bristol, Dymag has been granted a full UK patent No:2541498 and with PCT coverage in over 140 countries for its ground-breaking BOXSTROM® carbon composite wheel design.
The BOXSTROM® barrel is designed to meet and surpass the highest levels of testing demanded by leading performance and luxury automotive OEMs with a particular focus on performance, safety and durability. It achieves these requirements via a number of unique design and technical features that are now fully patent protected.
Specifically the carbon composite BOXSTROM® barrel moves the key load bearing structure of the wheel away from areas that are most exposed to impact damage from kerbs, and driving over hard objects or significant potholes. Importantly the design also substantially improves overall wheel stiffness.
The BOXSTROM® carbon composite barrel is typically teamed with a bespoke high specification forged aluminium centrepiece. The result is a carbon composite hybrid auto wheel that melds the benefits of cutting edge carbon composite performance with the flexibility of styling and stiffness offered by forged aluminium.
This is even more important as wheels continually get bigger: the low weight of the carbon barrel also significantly reduces the MOI (moment of inertia) reducing the energy to accelerate and brake the large rotating wheel while maintaining high lateral stiffness of total hybrid wheel systems.
Commenting on the newly granted patent, Dymag’s CEO Chris Shelley said:
“Gaining a full patent is clearly excellent news for our business, but it is also very good news for the wider global automotive industry; both OEM’s and aftermarket, as our BOXSTROM® design is effectively unlocking the huge benefits of carbon composites to automotive wheels.
“We wish we could disclose all the details of the exciting projects we are working on in addition to those such as Fisker EMotion EV, BAC Mono and Ariel, but the technology is so cutting edge that many marques are keeping developments under wraps.
“We have several world leading tier 1 OEM wheel manufacturers and aftermarket wheel brands in the USA, Europe (particularly Germany) and Japan developing aftermarket offerings that will feature our patented BOXSTROM® barrel with their styled centrepieces.”
